ACTION 8 UPDATE: About 1,400 people in Macon County have no water due to a water pump failure, but repairs are now underway.

The pump is near Macon County Road 46 and Germany Lane.

An electrician discovered the pump wasn’t receiving any electric current. Today, crews with Donald Smith and Company of Heflin have been working to pull up the pipes to get to the pump to see if it can be fixed or if it needs to be replaced, which could possibly take another two or three days.

Even after the pump is repaired, there are mandatory tests required by ADEM before the affected customers can get their water service back.

In the meantime, the River Region United Way has collected bottled water and gallon water jugs outside the Pike Road Publix to provide people with water. People who wish to receive this water need to have a photo ID to show they live in the affected area.

Catherine Phillips, who is a certified water operator for Macon County told Action 8 News that another option is for people to boil their water if they have water coming out of their faucets.
